4 Ways to Re-energizing Yourself After Not Getting the Job

4 Ways to Re-energizing Yourself After Not Getting the Job | SVS Group

Throughout much of our working life, we’ve probably encountered jobs we had to take but weren’t thrilled about jobs that turned sour on us. When you discover a job that would be perfect for you, it can create a huge surge of energy. Getting your hopes up on the perfect job only to be let down can be demoralizing.

Here are four tips to help you pick yourself up and get back on the horse:

Don’t Think of Rejection as Feedback

Don’t take it personal when you get rejected. That’s easier said than done, but it’s important to remember that you do not know how many other people applied for this position and how you ranked against them. No matter where you are in life, there’s always someone more qualified than you. That doesn’t mean they’re better.

Do ask for feedback. When you work with a recruiter, this part is simple. A hiring manager may not have time to respond to rejected applicants, but a recruiter is invested in your success and wants to help you succeed next time around.

Make Necessary Adjustments

When you get that feedback from your recruiter, or possibly the hiring manager, it’s important to use it to your advantage. Resist the urge to get down on yourself over any feedback.

Not getting the job might not actually be your fault. If the candidate was just more qualified, that doesn’t mean you’re not the right candidate for someone else. Take any feedback you get and adjust your approach for the next application or interview.

Don’t Give Up (Cue Training Montage)

It’s going to sting no matter how many articles online tell you not to take it personally. Use that sting in your pride as motivation to become the most qualified candidate out there.

Look into all the skills listed on the job that you didn’t quite haveā€”or your experience with is minimal. Then set out to learn and develop those skills as much as you can. Look for extracurricular activities you can get involved with that involve those skills and will look good on a resume.
